Komie Q&A: Answering Your Most Asked Questions About Beading, Business, and Starting an Online Shop

Welcome to Week TWO of the Komie Co. Studio Blog! ✿
I’m so glad you’re here—and even more excited about everything ahead.
First things first… wow! It’s officially been one full week since the launch of shopkomie.com, and I couldn’t be more grateful. Whether you’ve placed an order for a handmade beaded necklace or simply browsed the site, thank you for supporting this dream.
This week, I’m sharing something many of you have requested: a Komie Co. Q&A blog post. These are the top questions I get about my work, my jewelry, and even tips on how to start your own online shop.
🌸 How long does it take you to complete a beaded orchid?
On average, it takes me about 2 hours to finish each beaded orchid—from the detailed hand-beading to wiring and resin curing. For the handmade orchid necklaces currently in the shop, it takes another 40 minutes to carefully add the orchid to a beaded string.
It’s definitely a labor of love, but so worth it. After a beading session, I usually end up with a little orchid “army” ready to be turned into unique, handmade jewelry pieces.
💡 What inspired you to start your own brand?
Even though I completed my BSN, I’ve always been drawn to the creative and technical sides of business. After people started asking if I sold my orchids or could teach a course, I decided to trust my intuition and start a handmade accessories brand online.
I chose Shopify for its ease of use, and I’m so happy I did. Komie Co. has become the perfect place to share my love for unique beaded accessories and connect with people who value creativity and craftsmanship.
💻 How much money do you need to start an online shop?
This is such a valid question—and a big one! The truth is, it really depends on what kind of products you’re selling.
If you’re creating sustainable handmade jewelry or other one-of-a-kind items, your startup costs can be lower than if you were to bulk order products. One of the biggest pros of starting with handmade goods is that you can create items as they’re requested, instead of sitting on stock that may not sell.
Here are a few things to consider if you’re starting your own handmade business:
Platform: Shopify, Etsy, or another ecommerce site
Domain name: Optional, but adds professionalism
Supplies & equipment: Specific to your product (for me, beads, wire, resin, and jewelry findings)
Research: Understand your target consumer before you launch
Remember—progress is more important than perfection. Whether you’re launching a shop for handmade beaded necklaces or digital products, you’ve got this!

Thank you for joining me for the second Komie Co. Studio Blog post! I hope this Q&A gave you a little more insight into my world—both behind the beads and behind the brand.
